Handmade Cards

Slanchogled handmade card butterflies

Each card is telling a story. Stories of happy occasions, surprises, a wish to make someone smile, and spontaneous creative urges.

Materials you gather for your cards and ideas springing into your mind work together in a subtle way. Exciting materials are the core of new ideas, but equally, a good idea can make you think creatively, turning simple objects into clever visual treats.

Which comes first? It’s different every time. Sometimes you have an occasion to mark, at other times you first need to put your hands on it, and the message comes through as you go.

Today we’d like to show you how we make one of our visitors’ most-loved cards – “the one with the beautiful butterflies!”

Here’s the materials we use:

Interference acrylic colour

craft foam pads at Slanchogled

Sticky foam pads for creating volume and 3D effects

We start by mixing some Daler-Rowney System 3 paints with the interference colours to get a stunning shimmering effect and we apply them on black paper.

Once dry, we use the paper punch and we cut out as many butterflies as we need!

All we’ve got left to do is stick them together on a folded card. We use the sticky pads to create volume and a nice,”flying”, 3D effect:

And we’re done!
