Get Creative With Paper Butterflies

Get Creative With Butterflies

We’ve created a simple yet beautiful display in store using cut out butterflies and paper coated wire.

We selected white butterflies with a pearl finish but you could chose any colour with either a pearl or matt look. Using a needle to pierce a hole in the butterfly, we then thread through some paper coated wire. Again we went for white but you could change the look with different colour paper wire. Once the wire has been thread through, simply create a loop/knot in the wire to ensure the butterfly does not move beyond this point. Then, thread as many butterflies on the wire as you would like (we went for approx 28).

We then decided to hang our string of butterflies from the ceiling and repeated the process several times to create a cascade of many falling butterflies.

You can always experiment using different colours and try hanging the butterflies from the ceiling as we did, or drape over objects to create a lovely decoration.

Handmade Cards

Slanchogled handmade card butterflies

Each card is telling a story. Stories of happy occasions, surprises, a wish to make someone smile, and spontaneous creative urges.

Materials you gather for your cards and ideas springing into your mind work together in a subtle way. Exciting materials are the core of new ideas, but equally, a good idea can make you think creatively, turning simple objects into clever visual treats.

Which comes first? It’s different every time. Sometimes you have an occasion to mark, at other times you first need to put your hands on it, and the message comes through as you go.

Today we’d like to show you how we make one of our visitors’ most-loved cards – “the one with the beautiful butterflies!”

Here’s the materials we use:

Slanchogled butterfly paper punch

craft foam pads at Slanchogled

Sticky foam pads for creating volume and 3D effects

We start by mixing some Daler-Rowney System 3 paints with the interference colours to get a stunning shimmering effect and we apply them on black paper.

Once dry, we use the paper punch and we cut out as many butterflies as we need!

All we’ve got left to do is stick them together on a folded card. We use the sticky pads to create volume and a nice,”flying”, 3D effect:

And we’re done!
